Class B

Smartphone & Tablet NBTC Certification

Smartphones and tablets sold in Thailand require Class B (Certification) — the highest NBTC approval category — for every cellular technology they support. Class B applies uniformly across all cellular standards and frequency bands, regardless of generation: GSM, WCDMA, LTE, and 5G NR are all Class B. The certification covers the complete device including any co-located Wi-Fi or Bluetooth radios.

Why Smartphones and Tablets Require Class B

Class B (Certification) applies to telecommunications and RF equipment that operates on licensed spectrum — frequency bands allocated to mobile network operators. Because smartphones and tablets transmit on the same frequencies as public mobile networks, they are subject to the most stringent level of NBTC review, which includes independent laboratory testing against applicable technical standards and full NBTC authority evaluation before approval is granted.

Certification Requirements

All frequency bands listed below require Class B certification. The applicable standard depends on the cellular technology. Smartphones and tablets supporting multiple standards require compliance with each applicable standard — NBTC issues a single certificate covering all technologies.

GSM — NBTC TS 1004-2560

Frequency BandCertification
880–960 MHzClass B
1710–1880 MHzClass B
1850–1990 MHzClass B

WCDMA — NBTC TS 1015-2560

Frequency BandCertification
824–894 MHzClass B
880–960 MHzClass B
1710–1880 MHzClass B
1920–2170 MHzClass B

LTE — NBTC TS 1027-2560

Frequency BandCertification
703–803 MHzClass B
824–894 MHzClass B
880–960 MHzClass B
1710–1880 MHzClass B
1920–2170 MHzClass B
2300–2400 MHzClass B
2496–2960 MHzClass B
5150–5925 MHzClass B

5G NR — NBTC TS 1036-2563

Frequency BandCertification
703–803 MHzClass B
824–894 MHzClass B
880–960 MHzClass B
1710–1880 MHzClass B
1920–2170 MHzClass B
2300–2400 MHzClass B
2496–2960 MHzClass B
24250–27500 MHzClass B
A single NBTC application covers all cellular standards and bands in the device. NBTC issues one certificate, and the certification class is determined by the highest applicable class — Class B in all cases for cellular-enabled devices.

What This Covers

This page covers smartphones and tablets as consumer end-user devices. Typical products include:

  • Android and iOS smartphones (all generations)
  • LTE and 5G tablets
  • Cellular-enabled smartwatches and wearables
  • Mobile hotspot devices and portable routers with cellular connectivity
  • Feature phones with GSM or WCDMA connectivity
Cellular modules and infrastructure: If your product is a cellular module, modem, or base station rather than a consumer end-user device, see the Cellular Equipment page for requirements specific to that product category.

Required Documents

  • Technical specification / datasheet with wireless communication details
  • Product photographs (exterior and label)
  • Test reports from accredited laboratories outside Thailand — RF, Safety, and EMF/SAR as applicable
  • ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation certificate and laboratory scope
  • Authorised declaration (manufacturer or authorised representative)
Class B certification requires a local representative — a Thai juristic person holding a valid NBTC trade license and NBTC Supplier Code — to file on behalf of the overseas manufacturer. Zergo provides this as part of its certification service.
